We are
delighted to announce our 2004-2005 Composer-in- Residence, Mr. Benjamin
Taylor.
Read
Ben's bio.
As Composer-in- Residence, Benjamin is interested in bringing collaborative projects to
the fore. His new works for
the 2004-2005 season will incorporate local poets and focus on themes of
both regional and ultimately human relevance.
In
pursuit of this goal, Benjamin’s first project addressed a site of
historic beauty and national recognition, the Bodega Cemetery, in a
setting of poetry by local literary legend, Don Emblen. And in a
further effort to engage the larger community of artists in Sonoma County, a
17-year-old photographer and Summerfield Waldorf student, Ellya Hoex,
was chosen to create a photo-essay about the Bodega Cemetery.
Her work was displayed at concert venues in conjunction with
the premiere of Benjamin’s new work.
Our Composer Residency
is a new program, created as a vehicle for fostering the vitality of our
region’s arts culture, particularly focusing on the creation of new
choral music in partnership with other local artists and arts
organizations. The Composer-in-Residence will create new musical works for each of the three concert
series of the regular season.
