
We are pleased to present Janis Wilson as our
Composer-in-Residence for 2006-2007.
Janis Dunson Wilson is a published composer (ASCAP), choral and
theater conductor, pianist, and organist. She is experienced in writing,
arranging, and performing in a variety of musical styles, idioms, and
complexities, with concentration in opera, musical theater, electronic
music, choral music, children's music, and organ music. Her recent
theatrical compositions include The Tailor of Gloucester – a family
operetta that premiered in 2004; The Wedding - a full length opera;
and It's a Wonderful Life - a family musical based on the classic
film. All were commissioned by Cinnabar Opera Theater of Petaluma, CA.
Janis’ current projects are the musical drama Framed Woman with
librettist Jane Kennedy Stuppin, and the underscoring and incidental vocal
music to the Norwegian folktale East of the Sun and West of the Moon
which will be presented at the Santa Rosa Junior College in May, 2007.
Janis Wilson's publications include My Backyard - a musical
education series to help teachers present nature lessons to students in
kindergarten through second grade, published by Interact; Seasons Come
to the Forest - a work for organ and narrator published by Wayne
Leupold Editions; and Walking in the Light of Christ – a
compilation of thirty five original hymn tunes scheduled for release by
Wayne Leupold Editions in 2007. Janis teaches and directs in various
musical theater venues including Santa Rosa Junior College, Alchemia, an
innovative day program service for developmentally disabled adults, and
Cinnabar Theater, working with youth ages 8-17. Janis is the musical
director/organist for both St. Teresa's and St. Philip's Catholic Churches
in Sonoma County, CA. |
